Who is Wes Brockway?

Wes is a man of many interests and experiences, ranging from being the Pastor of a small rural church in Kentucky to occasionally racing his car on quarter-mile dragstrips. On subsequent pages on this website, we'll try to draw a picture of the man. Select the headings at the top of this page to explore these areas.

Wes was born the fourth child of Fred and Hattie Brockway. Fred was originally from Madison County, AL, near Owens Cross Roads, and Hattie grew up not too far away in Stevenson, Jackson County, Alabama. Fred served in the Navy, and Jacksonville, FL was his last station. After the Navy, Fred opened a television repair business aptly named Brockway's TV. The sales and service business was located near the intersection of Atlantic Blvd. and S. Arlington Rd. Around 1961, Fred felt called into the gospel ministry. He sold the company to an employee who kept the Brockway's TV name well into the 2000s.

Fred and Hattie moved the family across the panhandle of the state to the small town of Esto. Wes began the second grade and his new life as a country boy. The family lived several years in Esto, then moved to Paxton, FL, and finally settled in Fort Walton Beach, FL, where Fred pastored churches and opened another Brockway's TV store.

In 1973, Wes graduated from Choctawhatchee High School. That summer, a recruiter from DeVry Institute of Technology came calling. He introduced Wes to the school in Atlanta, GA. That Fall, Wes began the Electronic Technology program with DeVry. He worked for several companies in Atlanta: Southern Audio, Craig Corporation, and MSI Data Corporation. He also attended First Baptist Church of Atlanta, where Dr. Charles Stanley was pastor. While attending FBC, he got involved in the music program and, after auditioning, became a member of Sonlight, an ensemble of college students who would travel to churches in the area to perform concerts. It was at FBC in Sonlight that Wes met Susan Elizabeth Evans, who would become his wife on January 10, 1976.

Wes and Sue bounced between Atlanta and Fort Walton Beach a couple of times. On the last bounce, they lived on the west side of Atlanta in Douglasville, GA, where they attended Central Baptist Church. Wes was serving as part-time Minister of Music for Central Baptist when, in January 1984, God called Wes into the ministry. Needing a theological education, Wes settled on Clear Creek Baptist Bible College. After a year, he transferred to Cumberland College (now The University of the Cumberlands) in Williamsburg, KY. He graduated from Cumberland College in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science, Sacred Music. He decided to continue his education at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. In June 1991, Wes, Sue, and their two children, Glynn and Jessica, moved to Louisville, KY.

In March 1992, Davis Memorial Baptist Church called Wes to serve as their part-time Minister of Music. In a couple of years, the pastor of Davis Memorial led the church to open Davis Preschool and Child Care. He then asked Wes what he thought about serving as the school's Director in addition to serving the church. Wes recalls telling the pastor that being a childcare director was not something in his plans, but he accepted the challenge. In 1996, the church called Wes to be the Pastor of Davis Memorial. He then appointed himself School Administrator and promoted one of the teachers to Director.

In 2001, a company made the church an offer they couldn't refuse. The church accepted and sold the company the church property. The church purchased 17 acres of land on Taylorsville Road in Jeffersontown, KY. Wes led the church in building a 28,000 sq ft complex that included a state-of-the-art child care center. The center became Lakeside Academy and grew to have 120 children enrolled with 25 employees. The church members voted to change the church's name to Lakeside Academy. Wes served as a full-time Pastor and Child Care Administrator until April 2007. Three years later, Lakeside Baptist was signed over to Sojourn Church of Louisville, and Lakeside Baptist disbanded.

Meanwhile, in 2009, Green Acres Baptist Church called Wes as part-time Minister of Music. Wes served Green Acres in many positions until 2016 and then again for a short time in 2018.

We worked several jobs and enjoyed his semi-retired lifestyle. In June 2021, Wes was approached to preach one Sunday at Campbell's Baptist Church in Campbellsburg, KY. They asked him to return for July, and in August 2021, Wes accepted the church's call to serve as Transitional Pastor. In January 2022, Wes accepted the church's call to serve as their permanent Pastor.
